Cabinet Minister visits KDS Training

Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell visited Paisley on the 16th of April, ahead of the cabinet meeting in Glasgow, to meet the team at KDS.

KDS are one of the first employers to take advantage of the new ‘Golden Hello’ Recruitment Subsidy.

The cash, part of a multi million pound package, has been earmarked for subsidies in the two years from 6 April 2009. A ‘Golden Hello’ is paid to employers to help offset the effects of the downturn and provide an incentive give longer term unemployed people a chance to show that they are right for the job. It will also help companies, which would not otherwise be able to do so, to invest in their workforce and prepare for long-term recovery.

Speaking from KDS Ltd, Paisley, James Purnell said:

“We want to do everything we can to support people in the economic downturn and this subsidy is exactly the kind of help employers need to make sure people who have been out of work for a while, can get the chance to show what they can do.”

Mr Purnell’s visit follows on from his predecessor, Stephen Timms, visiting in June 2008.
